My name is Rong. Welcome to my site. I am a Los Angeles-based interdisciplinary artist, writer, scholar, and the current Associate Director of ROSEGALLERY. I hold a B.F.A. in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design and an M.A. in Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement (XE) from New York University.
Trained as a fashion designer, specializing in contemporary menswear, my apparel collections have a stylistic reference to streetwear with an emphasis on function, experimental spatial play, and creative construction. As the pattern maker of the CFDA member label Death to Tennis, the 2019 Spring Summer Collection, which I helped lead production, received rave reviews from publications like Vogue and Hypebeast.
Having continued my graduate education in Art & Literary Studies, combining my background as a visual artist, my current work explores the creative possibilities of the linguistic and the visual through critical and experimental integrations of philosophical theories. The essay "To Reason and To Feel" is an example of the type of experimental writing that is at the center of my practice.
Departing from the same interest in stylistic expression that drew me to the world of fashion, my illustration and tattoo work investigates the subtlety in sentiments through a minimalistic style. Influenced by my background in fashion, the subject of my illustration work centers around figures, garments, gestures, and expressions.
